⚖️ Live Weight Estimation

Estimate animal weight with a tape measure, without a scale

How to Measure?
1
Heart Girth

Measure the widest part of the body just behind the front legs, passing behind the heart.

2
Body Length

Measure from the shoulder point (scapula) to the pin bone (tuber ischii).

Tip: Measure while the animal stands on flat ground with its head in normal position. Hold the tape firmly but don't squeeze the animal.

What Does This Tool Do?

The Live Weight Estimation tool calculates animal weight by measuring heart girth and body length with a tape measure, without a scale.

Scientific formulas are used for cattle, sheep, and goats. Can be safely used for drug dosing and feed calculations with ±5% accuracy.

Frequently Asked Questions

Live weight is estimated using heart girth and body length measurements with the Schaeffer formula. Heart girth is measured just behind the front legs, body length from shoulder to pin bone. Accuracy is ±5%.

The most common formula for cattle: Weight (kg) = Heart Girth² × Body Length / 300 (Schaeffer formula). Different coefficients are used by species and breed. Sheep and goats use different formulas.

Live weight information is needed for drug dosing, feed amount calculation, fattening performance tracking, sales pricing, and reproductive management. Offers a practical solution with a tape measure for farms without scales.
